Hi, I'm Peter from the Six Nations Polytechnic STEAM Academy. We are brand hew to this - we are an FRC team and are teaching a robotics course to grade 9 students starting November 23. The Covid-format for our course is a little over two hours per day (afternoons) with three days on-campus and three days online in rotation through the course. We have not yet received the classroom kits but expect to get them imminently. (We are getting equivalent kits cobbled together by Studica Robotics since the actual kits are unavailable until January, I hear.)
Our FRC team has competed one year though we also competed and won in two off-season events. This is the limit of our experience. We are beginning to provision our robotics lab, have some tools and have use of a CNC Router and 3D Printer as well.
My goal is to get our students introduced to design using OnShape then to move forward to building something that moves under student control. We had lots of help from mentor FRC teams to get our first FRC robot built (largely our of wood) and expect that we need similar supports to learn the FTC environment. Unlike the grade 9 students enrolled in the robotics course, we have some FRC Java programming experience and perhaps this can help get things going on the FTC side.
